# Tablas en memoria vs tablas en disco

## El mito de la memoria

Existe la creencia de que la memoria es infinitamente más rápida que el disco. Eso nos lleva a pensar que las tablas en memoria son mucho más rápidas que las tablas en disco. Sin embargo, aunque son más rápidas, no es cierto que las tablas en memoria sean mucho más rápidas que las tablas en disco.

## Más independencia que rendimiento

Usar tablas en memoria suele tener un objetivo claro, pero la mayoría de las veces no está relacionado con el rendimiento y sí con la posibilidad de disponer de almacenamiento local específico para el usuario y no compartido con el resto de usuarios.
